Planning Your Project Budget
Build the budget around scope, assumptions and decisions.
Separate the kit from the whole project
A structural kit is one part of a wider budget. Identify the stage your price covers, then allow separately for the activities that remain. Make clear whether the area used is total internal floor area, footprint or another measure; compare prices using the same basis.
Allow for the site
Ground conditions, access, service connections and the delivery strategy can influence cost. Site allowances should reflect the information available. An early estimate with unknown ground conditions needs further investigation before it becomes a committed budget.
Include design and coordination
Check engineering, design development, surveys, approval costs and project management against the quoted package. Add them separately only where they are excluded. The same applies to installation: avoid counting it twice when a package already includes it.
Record uncertainty
Keep a visible contingency and a list of unpriced items. The appropriate allowance depends on the unresolved risks and project stage. A contingency is not a substitute for obtaining missing quotations or defining the specification.
Develop the budget with BPM
Share your drawings, floor area, preferred system and delivery scope with BPM. We can coordinate project-specific supplier enquiries and develop a budget with clear inclusions, exclusions and allowances. Estimates are reviewed as the design and site information develop, before an agreed quotation is issued.
